Characteristics of big Data (1)

Volume: The Massive Amount of Data

Volume is a term that generally characterizes the amount of data generated by different sources every single second. Social media posts, online shopping, sensor data, and financial transactions all contribute to the information produced by the world today which is huge in size—sometimes it is measured in terabytes or petabytes.

Having more data at hand gives a business the possibility of discovering additional insights. But, on the other hand, managing such large amounts presents a lot of difficulties. This necessitates the presence of reliable storage devices and processing resources which are safe from any troubles while working with this data. Classic computers are often insufficient for such tasks.

Therefore, it is quite natural for the companies to employ the means of storage like the cloud, Hadoop, or data lakes for this purpose. Simply put, Volume is the most significant and the most visible characteristic of Big Data—it is not only big, but also very big.
